The women bishops steering committee, which was set up following debate at General Synod this July, met for the first time this week. There were two days of discussion at the meeting in Coventry which considered a first draft of a measure as well as an amending canon as requested by Synod. Also discussed was the possible shape of a declaration from the House of Bishops as well as a mandatory grievance procedure.

A spokesperson for the group described the discussions as “serious, honest and constructive”. WATCH prays for all those on the committee and looks forward to the day when women can take their place alongside men as bishops and every part of the Church of England.
