WATCH is delighted to celebrate the news that Reverend Canon Alison White has been appointed as Bishop of Hull. As she joins the College of Bishops, we joyfully recognise that this is another step forward in seeing better representation in the College and the House of Bishops. We believe that the increased presence of women alongside men will better serve the church and the nation of which we are a part.

We continue to look forward to many more appointments like this, until 50% of the House is female, and the announcement of a woman being appointed as bishop will no longer be newsworthy.

Hilary Cotton, Chair of WATCH, said:

‘Two women in the College of Bishops is a great start. We wish Canon White all the very best as she, with Bishop Libby, navigates the episcopal culture and takes on her leadership role in the Church of England. We especially hope that they are joined by a female Diocesan bishop very soon.’
