Celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Ordination of Women as Priests
Newcastle Cathedral: Sunday 22 September, 4pm
The Revd Canon Clare MacLaren, Bishop Christine and the Dean of Newcastle invite you, and all who wish to attend, to join them at Newcastle Cathedral for a celebratory service to mark this momentous occasion – the 25th anniversary of the ordination of the first women priests in the Church of England.
Bishop Christine will preside over this Eucharistic service and clergy and readers are welcome to robe in the way they customarily would for a service of Holy Communion – wearing red stoles where appropriate.
The Cathedral choir will perform music, predominantly, if not entirely the work of women composers.
There will also be an opportunity to give thanks for those women priests, allies and campaigners, living and departed, who have been an inspiration along the way. You are invited to bring a photo of those who have been your inspiration and support for display on the day and bring a free-standing candle (any colour, shape or size) that will burn for at least an hour to represent them.
